Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has modified the application process for sponsorship of parents and grand-parents in order to give an equal chance to all Canadians who apply for it.
Unlike previous years where only the first 5,000 candidates who submitted their physical applications to the appropriate IRCC office had a chance to see their applications processed ; candidats will now be randomely chosen from the entire pool of applications. The number of accepted applications has also doubled, rising from 5,000 to 10,000 applications.
For the year 2017, instead of sending their entire files, candidates will be invited to submit a simple form of intent as of January 3rd, 2017, (noon EST) up until February 2nd, 2017 (noon EST). This form will include the surname, first name, date and country of birth, principal residence address, postal code and e-mail address.
IRCC will then eliminate duplicates and randomly draw 10,000 applications. Those selected will be invited to submit a complete application within 90 days. With that in mind, it will be appropriate to have your file ready when you send your form of intent. The kit containing the guide and the required forms needed to be submitted with an application will be available online on the IRCC website as of January 9th.
